An Interview with Abstract Artist Duane Stearman

Duane Stearman’s abstract artworks are explosive in colour and uniquely beautiful. He uses acrylic paints on canvas, wood, and steel to create striking paintings that in some works, appear to be symbolic: an oval symbol with eyes within surrounded by the sun’s rays gloriously realised with dark blues and red. Other paintings include variations of eyes, that are, pardon the pun, totally eye-catching, and thought-provoking. It is obvious that Duane’s personality and passion are embedded in every brushstroke. His work is original and emotive.

You can view Duane’s work on his Facebook page.

How did you discover your passion for art?

Pain. I had gone through a divorce and a break up from a woman. I was in love with 2 different people plus my 5 children were being held back from me and my business went belly up. While this was going on I had

taken myself off of pharmaceuticals. Basically, I went crazy, I had been on Ambien for 3 years. I didn’t sleep for 3 months, so I painted all night.

Why abstract art?

Back in 1986 when I was 20, I was painting with oils, experimenting should be said, and drawing. Photographic drawings, I have no idea where it came from.

I had been hit by a car, died, of course I came back, but the gap was 29 years or so. I had dabbled in a little painting of shirts but had negative responses because I had made some angels with boobs. Anyway I didn’t paint until a wine and canvas for breast awareness. And I took their model and made an abstract. And they loved it. I being inspired bought an isle and paint and just started painting. I shot through a moment of pain. No sleep for 3 months. I painted over and over. I had gone crazy. Coming off of pharmaceuticals testosterone implant ambien sleeping pills well beaten I was a mess. And I just painted tell I felt better. Abstract made me feel better.

What inspires you?

Spirit.

Source energy became my guild, my love, my hope, walking me by the hand as I came through the death of life into a life of power and love. Love is my inspiration. Love is my guide, I find an absence of Love, I have no desire and I walk away.

Love is spirit Source energy is love.

What do you enjoy about the process of creating artwork and what do you dislike, if anything?

I find it liberating. Nothing I dislike.

Whose work do you admire and why?

Honestly, any work I see.

Which of your works is your favourite and why?

Money Tree – because it’s abundant.

Money Tree is abundant, I met my first money tree in a meditation, so beautiful so abundant. I had to make a painting.

Funny money tree, Source energy are so closely linked. If you notice money Tree has a vagina. The vagina is the place of birth, a place of comfort a place of true abundance. The gateway to the spirit world because to come here we all must pass through it. Money Tree it is abundant.

How do you market yourself & your work?

I just show it to friends on facebook.

What goals do you have for the year ahead?

To be independently wealthy through art. Book writing – I have a book called personal magic.
